Father Son

I was once an island
I listened to the voices of the sea
Returning there and moving on now
Never knowing how to comfort me

We got lost in California
and you know they’ll try and warn you

not to be too cold / not to be bought and sold /
not to try too hard...

A myth just needs a hero
Another tragedy to save us all
After days of rain we felt the pain washed so clear
Like water shining or ribbons on the wall

Father Son, we want to ask you
How you fascinate when we unmask you

All my life... Here I sit, I sit and write
My empty hands are holding you tonight
Father Son... you make it seem so right

If everyone’s mistaken
A moment wavering, neither wrong nor right
Returning there and moving on now
Your clever mind is dripping with insight

And these lights they all adore you
and you know they’ll try and warn you

not to be too cold / not to be bought and sold /
not to try too hard...

not to wait too long / not to sing the same old songs /
not to want too much...

All my life... Here I sit, I sit and write
My empty hands are holding you tonight
Father Son... you make it seem so right

Father son it's all right (it's all right now)
Father son it's all right now.
